"Non-Aligned Europe. The Yugoslav Region and the Production of Cosmopolitan Thought Zones"

This Dissertation Project is engaged with the Non-Aligned archive broadly speaking. It also includes materials from non-official, biographical and cultural archives, as well as materials which precede NAM and inform its horizons. Through this archival strategy, I show that the NAM has continued to articulate the prior geographies of affinity. The Yugoslav space, which is often thought off separately, outside, or somehow exempt from such cross-colony and metropole-colony criss-crossing, was very much part of such “thought zones” of alternative cosmopolitanism, and this is the story I would like to tell. My main methodological assumption is that intellectual traditions, aesthetic practices (re-narrativized through ethnography) and lived experiences, are equally important resources for anthropological re-inscription.
