I am Junior Professor of European Ethnology & Media Anthropology at the Department of European Ethnology at the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. My research is concerned with the transformations of everyday practices and experiences enabled through digital technologies. I am especially interested in the fields of media and digital anthropology, popular culture research and the ethnography of emotions. In my work I am applying an ethnographic approach to the study of digital media which is strongly inspired by practice theory. I worked extensively on violence in video games, which was also the topic of an ethnographic monograph (the German book is available in Open Access here, for an English article on the topic see here). Currently I am starting a new research project as member of the Centre for Anthropological Research on Museums and Heritage (CARMAH), in which I will use approaches of media and digital anthropology to foster our understanding of media practices and experiences at memory places and heritage sites in Berlin and Europe.

We warmly welcome fellow media anthropologists to join the „Media & Digital Anthropology Lab“ at the Institute of European Ethnology in one of our regular sessions. If you are interested in presenting and discussing your research in this context or in becoming a member of the group, feel free to write me an Email.
