Curriculum Vitae

 

Gertrud Hüwelmeier studied Social Anthropology and Philosophy at the Free University in Berlin, (MA. 1986), earned her PhD in Social Anthropology at the Eberhard-Karls-University in Tübingen (1996) and completed her studies with a habilitation at the Humboldt University Berlin in 2003.
She held visiting professorships at the Philipps-University in Marburg (2007 and 2009) and was a research fellow at the Max-Planck Institute for the Study of Religious and Ethnic Diversity, Department of Religious Diversity, Göttingen (2009/10) and at the Department of Socio-Cultural Diversity, Göttingen (2011 /2012).
To date, she received six research grants funded by the German Research Foundation, on “Gender, Migration and Modernity” (1998-2000),  "Transnational Religion and Globalization" (2001-2005), “Transnational Religious Networks and New Migration" (2005-2010), "The Global Bazaar" (2011-2015),  “Religion, Media, and Materiality. Spiritual Economies in Southeast Asia” (2015-2018).
Currently she is working on a new project "Urban Ecologies in Southeast Asia - Humans, Environment and Ghosts in the City“ funded by the German Research Foundation (2018-2023).
She is a member of the DFG funded Research Network "Plural Ecologies. Anthropological Perspectives on Southeast Asia".
