Transforming Solidarities

Praktiken und Infrastrukturen in der Migrationsgesellschaft. Projektzeitraum: Oktober 2020 - Oktober 2023 | Förderinstitution: BUA (Berlin University Alliance)

»Transforming Solidarities. Praktiken und Infrastrukturen in der Migrationsgesellschaft« is an interdisciplinary consortium of scholars who are conceptualizing and approaching Berlin as a ›laboratory‹ of migration society – that is, a society that is fundamentally and irrevocably transformed by migration. Through case studies that examine the interconnected areas of labor, housing and health we explore how solidarity is negotiated and investigate practices and infrastructures that condition or limit solidarity.

We argue that labor, housing, and health are not only sites of societal reproduction in crisis – so often diagnosed today – but also key arenas for the political, social, and material negotiation of solidarity relations. In response to new challenges of social cohesion, as conditioned by digitalization, migration, and locally articulated global influences, the project also aims to generate new modes of collaborative and transdisciplinary knowledge production.

The »Transforming Solidarities« consortium is composed of affiliates of Technical University Berlin, Freie Universität Berlin, Humboldt Universität zu Berlin, and Charité. It is funded through the Main Call Exploration Project Framework ›Social Cohesion‹ of the Berlin University Alliance.
